Saladini Of Scarperia Italy Tre Pianelle Ox Horn Knife

This knife is a cream beige bone color with silver blade and I'm not responsible for the colors you may see when viewing on your device. Since the Middle Ages, the Tuscan town Scarperia has been a famed center of knives and cutlery production.

Coltellinai Saladini Of Scarperia Italy is one of only 4 workshops left still producing knives. The Tre Pianelle knife has very ancient origins and is so called due to the shape of the blade which takes on three facets, the two oblique lateral ones and the flat central one. In fact, three-flat blades are found in Roman and Sicilian models from periods before the nineteenth century and in other hunting knives, with very sharp shapes more suitable for defense or offense than for cutting.

The Tre Pianelle looks like a knife with a double-edged blade but it is a folding knife and the sharp part of the blade is only on the inside while the rib part is not sharp the heel of the blade features the characteristic cross of St Andrew. The only sign of use on this knife is a slight ding in horn handle which I point out in photo.

There is no wobble in the blade and it is a very solid and sturdy well built knife. I have never cut with it or sharpened it. To me it is a treasure not a knife. It weighs nearly 4 oz with steel liner within the horn handle.

This knife is a real beauty but not fragile or delicate. It begs to be shown off and talked about. This knife is MADE IN ITALY for those who didn't read all of the above.
