AL MAR UNIQUE 13 KNIVES ARTIST PROOF SET ALL ENGRAVED & SCRIMSHAWED. VALADE ENGRAVED & SCHULTE SCRIMSHAW 1980/1981/1982 ONE OF A KIND. Back by request, Im listing this truly beautiful, original Al Mar Artist Proof 13 piece knife collection for Autumn 2017, 25 years after Al Mars passing.

Al Mar Knives was established in 1979. This unique, one-of-a-kind artist proof set came from Larry Martins amazing collection out of Portland, Oregon in 2006.

Larry was a friend of Al's before his passing in 1992 and due to that relationship he amassed one of the best Al Mar collections in existence at the time. By far the finest group of knives from the entire Martin collection, this wonderful collection features scrimshaw work done by Bonnie Schulte and engraving by Bob Valade.

The scrimshaw work is signed "Schulte" and dated in either 1980, 1981, or 1982. All the engraving is marked Valade and dated either 1980 or 1981. The backs of all the blades are etched AP for Artist Proof and are dated either 1980 or 1981. The theme of the scrimshaw work is Sea Serpents, or Water Dragons. The work is beautiful and this set is amazing!!

My brother, who has a collection of 250 300 rare and unique knives, commented, you will justify getting this set from looking at the pictures, but you will be overjoyed upon receiving and seeing it. He says hes simply never seen a better set of knives, period and hes always looking..

The set includes 13 of the most popular patterns ever produced by Al Mar knives from this time frame and I will include an original brochure, pictured, and price list showing the standard white micarta set from the time. The kinves in the set are: Osprey, Hawk, Falcon, Eagle, Vulture, Buzzard, Bulldog I, Bulldog II, Fang, Road Runner, Fisher, Packrat I and Packrat II.

This set is COMPLETELY AWESOME!! Some of these knives are extremely rare. While all are highly sought after by serious collectors and purveyors of fine cutlery, this is a ONE-OF-A-KIND set, representing the peak of Al Mar knife craftsmanship. Again, this is the only set like this in existance, period.

All of the knives feature the Antique Yellow Micarta handles. Micarta is a brand name for composites of linen, canvas, paper, fiberglass, carbon fiber or other fabric in a thermosetting plastic. It was originally developed by Westinghouse, but is no longer produced by them. These handles are original Westinghouse Micarta. This wonderful unequaled knife collection is in mint condition!! The asking price for this set reflects its unique status as the only pristine, complete Artist Proof set embellished with master engraving and scrimshaw by the two premiere artists working with Al Mar in the 1980s, shortly after he established his company in 1979. Im including with the original 13 piece Artist Proof set a 14. Piece, an engraved Fang, also in original yellow micarta with Bonnie Schulte scrimshaw of a Wizard. This Wizard compliments the Water Dragons in the Proof Set. These pieces would look great framed in lucite, possibly surrounding the original brochure. The clear lucite would provide the ability to turn the whole framed piece around to view the reverse AP. Mark, the tang engraving and the descriptions on the back of the brochure.
